Levoy Binns: Levoy made some mistakes in life and needed help gaining direction.  We provided the opportunity when we met him at a community orientation.  He graduated from Unity in the Community’s P.O.W.E.R. Program and LAUSD’s “We Build” Construction Training Program.    After graduating, he was hired into the construction field as an Industrial Painter, doing sandblasting and heavy coatings mainly in water treatment plants.  He is employed by District Council 36 Painters & Flooring and a member of Industrial Painters Union (Local 95).
     

 
David Burks:  David (standing in front on the left) had gone through some life challenges.  We met him at a community resource orientation.  At the time he was participating in the U.S. Veterans Initiative, whose Mission is; “The successful reintegration of homeless veterans.”   He wholeheartedly committed himself to completing the P.O.W.E.R. Program.  As a result of faithful participation in UITC’s “Total Life Prosperity” Life Skills and Construction training, he received his certificates of completion from UITC and LAUSD.  Since graduating in 2005, he is now a Journeyman Carpenter in (Local 409) and gainfully employed in the construction industry.
     

 

Maurice Murphy: Maurice says, “Unity in the Community has been an ongoing part of my progress concerning the rebuilding of my life and employment capability.  Since graduating from P.O.W.E.R. “Total Life Prosperity” and “We Build” courses, provided by Unity in the Community I have gone on to join the Carpenters Union, (Local 409) and work for various commercial contractors, such as Pankow Builders and San Mar Construction.  Today I am a Journeyman Carpenter and employed thanks to God and organizations like UITC and companies willing to hire their graduates.”  Maurice received Certificates of Completion from Unity in the Community and the Los Angeles Unified School District.

     

 

Michael Collins: We met Michael at a community orientation.  He had gone through some serious personal challenges and realized he needed to make changes in his life.  The P.O.W.E.R. program was introduced to him, as a means to get him on the right track.  He was diligent in attending our Constructive Life Development classes and received Certificates of Completion from UITC and LAUSD.  Michael now works for Luara Park Construction and is a member of Laborers Union (Local 300).

     

 

Ray Maynez: Ray had some troubling life experiences. When he enrolled with UITC he was working to restore his life at the Therapeutic Community Rehabilitation Program.  He has a great attitude and was faithful in attending UITC’s P.O.W.E.R. Program and LAUSD’s “We Build” Program He received Certificates of Completion from UITC and LAUSD.  Ray is now working in the construction industry as a member of Carpenters Union (Local 409).  He is well on his way to total life restoration.

     

 

Derrick Green: Derrick has experienced some rough times in his life.   He was looking for an opportunity to correct his life, and found this opportunity at Unity in the Community. He was faithful during UITC’s P.O.W.E.R Constructive Life Development training.  As a result he was awarded Certificates of Completion from UITC and LAUSD.  Derrick has gotten his life back on point.  He is now employed with Aero Tech & Engineering, safely disposing of hazardous material waste.

     

 

Aaron Payne:  Aaron was rebuilding his life when we met him.  He came to us by way of the Therapeutic Community Rehabilitation Program.  Aaron was diligent and focused while in our program, exhibiting strong leadership skills.  He went beyond was expected, completing more hours than required.  He was concerned about others going through, going the “extra mile.” After Aaron graduated, he assisted Pastor Woodard in encouraging others to take advantage of the P.O.W.E.R. Constructive Life Development Program.  Aaron is doing well, earning a good salary, working for a company that disposes of hazardous waste materials.

     

 

Marque Fisher: Marque had a life that was heading in the wrong direction.  He needed to regroup.  Then he heard about Unity in the Community.  He enrolled and was consistent while participating in the P.O.W.E.R. Constructive Life Development Program.  He satisfactorily completed the program and was awarded UITC & LAUSD Certificates of Completion.  Marque now works for Premier Wall Construction and is a member of Drywall Union (Local 1506).

     

 

Peter Nelson: Peter (pictured on the right) came to us by way of the Employment Development Department.  Peter always had a smile on his face and an encouraging word for his peers like Ramon Almodovar (pictured left).  Peter is a man with a mission, always one of the first to speak up.   He received Certificates of Completion from UITC & LAUSD.  Peter is moving forward, as a member of Laborers Union (Local 300) and working with Arcerio Brothers Construction.

     

 

Jonathan Hall: Jonathan was laid off and searching for help, trying to get something going positive for his life, when he came to UITC.  He applied himself and received both Certificates of Completion from UITC & LAUSD.  He is employed by Kemp Bros. Construction and a member of Laborers Union (Local 300).   Jonathan says, “I had a bad past and used to get into trouble.  I lacked belief in myself.  Then I encountered “We Build” through Unity in the Community.  UITC helped me connect to a better future.  Today, I have a steady job and a sense that I am helping my community.”          I am a changed person.     

     

 

Tyron Tolbert: Tyron came to us by way of the LA County’s General Relief Opportunity for Work (GROW) Program.  He needed help in rebuilding his life.  He applied himself to the UITC P.O.W.E.R. Constructive Life Development program and was very faithful.  As a result of his diligence, he received Certificates of Completion from UITC and LAUSD.  Tyron is now a plumber, working for Deel Mechanical Corporation and is a member of Plumbers Union (Local 78).  He is very happy that he made a change in his life.

     

 

Orain Stephenson: Orain was looking for work, when his aunt, a community member referred him to Unity in the Community.  Once enrolled, he was faithful and dedicated to doing his best.  Orain was awarded both Certificates of Completion from UITC & LAUSD.  He is now employed with Tilden-Coil Construction and a member of Carpenters Union (Local 409).  When we asked him how he likes his job he said, “I’m Loving It!”  Orain is loving the result of the change he made to improve his life.

     

 

Dennis Bennett: Dennis came to UITC by way of the One Stop, Worksource Development Center, seeking an opportunity for lasting employment.  He had taken classes at LA Trade Tech, but needed more training that would lead to a job.  We provided that opportunity and our program that leads to a high paying, union job.  He completed our life skills, construction training and employment program and was awarded Certificates of Completion from UITC & LAUSD.  Dennis is now employed by Premier Wall Construction and a member of Drywall Union (Local 1506).   His situation was turned around and brought forth positive change.

     

 

Herbert Lawrence: Herbert had gone through some difficult times.  He had decided to make a change for the better when we met him at a community resource orientation.  When UITC’s Constructive Life Development program was presented to him, he accepted our invitation and applied himself to the training.  Herbert was faithful to the program and a positive example to the others.  He received his Certificates of Completion from UITC and LAUSD.  Herbert is “Pressing toward the mark, the high calling in Jesus.”  He is working for Premier Wall Construction and is a member of Drywall Union (Local 1506).

     

 

Felix Stiglbauer: Felix had a troubled past.  He was living in a transitional housing facility.  He was looking for help to change his life, when we met him at a community resource orientation.  Felix was consistent to the program and applied himself diligently to the training.  He was awarded Certificates of Completion from UITC and LAUSD.  Felix now works for Standard Drywall, Inc. and is a member of Drywall Union (Local 1506).

     

 

Gregorio Rodriguez: In early 2008, when Gregorio joined the UITC Construction Training and Employment program he had served an eight-month prison sentence.  What made him special, is a determination to put and keep his history in the past and press toward the mark, the high calling in Christ.  With a good attitude, faithfulness, and God’s help, he completed training, almost immediately joined Drywall Union (Local 1506) and began working for Standard Drywall, Inc.  Since joining UITC Gregorio has accomplished many goals including: discharging off parole, getting his driver’s license, getting his own apartment, and purchasing a pickup truck.
